In the state of Ohio, any person is allowed to act in self-defense, defense of another, or defense of that person's residence. Crimes where personal defense may be necessary include parking lot ambushes, stalking, and domestic violence. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, 15%-20% of assault crimes happen in the home by intimate partners with 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experiencing severe intimate partner physical violence.

Unfortunately, most victims can't afford the necessary instruction to properly protect themselves and their families against those who wish them harm.
